This is Viscosity, one of the first and most popular afabfem drag queens of Athens, who belongs to the House of Skorpina alongside Daglara and to the House of Daglara. She was asked about her positionality as a afab fem drag queen in Greece, the symbolism behind her drag persona and her experiense as a participant and winner of the Amsterdam SuperBall 2018 competition, one of the greatest european competitions for Drag Houses. We await for her luminous, sensual and aggresively feminine future.
What was your initial motive for doing drag?
Drag was a chance to combine several interests of mine, such as the art of make up, the parformativity, dancing and the creation of an image that exists in a space and takes a material form, in general. My opportunity for a proper start as a drag queen, besides the times that I used to do my makeup domestically or more rarely when on clubbing, was the opening of the club BeQueer, in which I started regularelly doing my own shows.
What’s the storyline of Viscosity?
There’s no specific storyline, since Viscosity represents myself, in an extravagant way. Besides that, I could add that Viscosity is a betrayed aggressive femininity that doesn’t maintain a strictly human form, but exists in a more hybrid state, either as an angel, a demon, an animal or any other undefineable creature.
What are the symbols that you display in your aesthetics?
I’m interested in the female body, its reclaim, its power and the sensuality.
The female representation in the Greek Drag scene is very rare. According to you, what’s the reason of this phenomenon?
The fact that females are able to be a part of drag is not that popular, and, as a result, women in drag are less than men, but, progressively, as the females gain more popularity, the more new female drag queens pop up.
Recently you took part as a member of House of Daglara at the Superball Amsterdam, were you deservedly won the title of “Winner House of SuperBall 2018”. Would you like to elaborate a little about your experience and your interaction with the world class Drag scene?
It was allover a very beautiful and exraordinay experience, at a much larger scale of what we’ve lived here in Athens, so it was all rather new and intense, but it was really pleasant to be there, besides all the stress. Being there, so many drag queens from all over Europe, it was impressive, and it was also so nice to see that many different Houses, with different drag realnesses delivered.
What are your aspirations about the future of Viscosity?
I don’t have specific aspirations, as long as I evolve, even if the evolution comes through Viscosity at its present form, or if it comes through any other direction.
