Antonia Protonotariou is an artist that painted pictures from the greek bondage scene using various techniques. We can see drawings of floor ties, suspensions and self ties. Here she answered us some questions about her project.
Do you have a degree in arts or you are self taught?
I first got involved with art at an early age by painting portraits and taking photos of people. That was enough to decide studying fine arts in the future. Now I’m in my third year.
What was the thing that got you interested in painting bondage?
A basic characteristic of my work is the variety of ideas that tend to represent. I like trying new things and especially those related to my fantasy. I always had an interest about bondage culture but i wanted the perfect opportunity of getting in touch with it. This project was the best way to see bondage through my artistic view.
Can you tell us a little about the painting techniques you use?
I used cross hatching with markers, abstract lines with black ink and brushes and the coloured ones were depicted with a more fauvistic palette of poscas, colour pencils & markers.
What are your influences?
I used photos of bondage artists’ performances with their models as reference. Their art has the intension and passion to give you great inspirations. Every artists’ photos had their own special vibes and point of view so i changed the technique according to that.
Do you have a personal relationship with bondage or you are just an observer?
Bdsm for me is a safe way to express your ensticts without thinking and feeling uncomfortable with yourself. Bodily pain reminds you that psychological pain is something your own mind creates. For me, when you endure psysical pain you release yourself into the senses of the flesh and the screams of pleasure the skin feels.
Are you into other arts also?
I do photos and videos mostly related with human portraits and body language but lately have much interest in making music and performance as well.
What about your future plans?
Keep the creative spirit and meet true artists to team up with.My future and only plan is art to be an endless give and take journey with powerful experiences and personal evolution.
