We discovered Katerina’s work about a week ago through instagram. Her black and white sketches depict the erotic side of fat women while being nude, wearing fetish lingerie or being in shibari type of bondage. She answered us some questions and sent us 19 of her sketches for all of us to enjoy.
1. Would you like to like to describe to us some core elements of you? I’m Katerina and I live in Athens. I’ve already studied fashion design and now I study graphic design. I love cats, dinosaurs and Nabokov’s Lolita.
2. In your work, we come across narratives of unapologetic, self-sufficient, femme sexuality and sensation. What inspired you? I get inspired by the power thats emerges from the female body, that may not conform to the structured social beauty standards.
3. What would you aspire to communicate with your work? My goal is to contribute to the propulsion of the image of a fat body, which can be sensual, sexual, desirable. In general, I’d like to illustrate a kind of body that is usually hiding, due to shame.
4.Why did you choose pointillism as your preferred technique and how did you develop it? I had a project when I studied that had to do with dotting, so after that, I started practicing illustrating on my own by designing pictures of my naked body, that I wasn’t allowed to post on social media, because of the puritansm and the censorship of the skin.
5.You have incorporated Bondage in your work. Would you like to share with us your experience with it? The Shibari bondage technique is alluring to me, because I consider it to be unique. In my mind, the bonds are translated as freedom. This perception is what I desired to deliver through my work.
6. What are your aspirations about the development of your project? I’d like to inspire and encourage women through my work to embrace their sexuality, to love their body an to discover their own sensuality.
